Wrinkles

The process of skin aging is genetically programmed and inevitable. It begins invisibly at the age of twenty by the slowdown of cell renewal. The skin slowly loses in firmness and elasticity before the wrinkles appear. The contours of the eyes and mouth are usually the most affected areas.

Causes

In addition to the work of time and heredity, skin aging can be accelerated by the daily routines.  Sun, cold, wind, drought, pollution and tobacco all produce free radicals that, if over produced, disrupt cells and lead to premature skin aging.

The repetition of some facial movements also strengthens requested muscles. This muscle activity causes the wrinkling of the skin surrounding it, which causes wrinkles of expression. Among the wrinkles named scientifically, we can recognize concern wrinkles (front), brow wrinkles (eyebrows), pattes-d’oies wrinkles (external corners of the eyes), puppet wrinkles (corners of the mouth), rabbit wrinkles (bridge of the nose to mouth), and lip lines.

In women, hormonal changes of menopause and uterine also dry the skin.

Information and advice

On a daily basis, several actions can be taken to prevent wrinkles and lines.

Oxygenizing and moisturizing the skin, protecting it from the sun and exfoliating it are reachable actions for all and are necessary to keep skin healthy.

A well-balanced diet, rich in vitamins, trace elements and fatty acids, is also essential, as are nutritional supplements.

Several substances can be applied to the skin to fight wrinkles.

Fruit acids and AHA have exfoliating action which gives glare to the skin. They are to be used sparingly since they can also speed up the natural thinning of the skin.

Antioxidants neutralize free radicals and improve the skin surface. They are found especially in vitamins E and C and in beta-carotene.
The ceramides are lipids that hold moisture in the skin and stabilize the structure.

The retinol, a derivative of vitamin A, stimulates cell renewal and diminishes small wrinkles.

The effects on the skin of hormonal changes may be limited by nourishing skin cares, like soya or algae.

But we must be careful not to use too many different active ingredients on our skin, as this could accelerate the aging process.

Treatments

Different treatment options may be considered when it comes to correcting existing wrinkles.

Known under various names, botulinum toxin (Botox) is injected in low doses to paralyze certain muscle areas. It acts on the nerve conduction and prevents muscle contraction, one of expression lines factors. This temporary paralysis, which lasts an average of 5 to 6 months, has the effect of toning down these wrinkles and lines.

The botulinum toxin is used mostly for the wrinkles of the forehead, eyebrowse wrinkles, pattes-d’oies and lines and wrinkles at the corners of the mouth.

Lifting and facelift are popular terms for tensing the skin of the face and neck. This technique removes and tenses excess skin, muscle and fatty deposits.

The facelift does not stop the aging process, but diminishes certain signs to get a rejuvenated appearance and milder contours on the skin of the face and neck.

It is common to use alternative or complementary treatments at the same time. Since this treatment is mostly applied to the middle third of the face and to the neck, it can be combined with other treatments for more effective results (liposuction , endoscopy, tissue sealant, etc.).  Facelifts and liftings can not correct the fatty deposits of the eyelids, eyebrows falling or fine lines around the mouth.

Injectable implant technique involves injecting products that fill up the striated lines of the skin.  The filling uses products injected with a fine needle into the dermis, which are vegetal-based and self-resorbing. Therefore, in some cases, to renew the injections to get a lasting effect. Collagen makes up permanently for some wrinkles, whereas hyaluronic acid improves targeted wrinkles for a 3 to 12 months period.

Filling is mostly used for forehead wrinkles, eyebrowse wrinkles and wrinkles around the nose.

Filling is more durable and is reinjects into the wrinkles the fat collected from the patient under general anesthesia.

The filling is used mainly for pattes-d’oies, to boost cheekbones, filling the stripes around the nose and reduce fine lines of the upper lip.

Microdermabrasion of skin by laser removes wrinkles around the eyes and on eyelids.

The most common technique is the CO2 laser, for expression lines. A less powerful laser, often called AURA, is used to eliminate the least affected areas, such as fine lines.

The technique of gold thread is also collagen-based. A golden wire is inserted under the skin to stimulate the production of collagen.

The peeling technique involves superficial burn of the skin to eliminate dead cells and regenerate cellular activity.
